Te Whakanui i a Matariki - Celebrating Matariki
Matariki is a small but distinctive star cluster which becomes visible in the pre-dawn sky looking north-east towards the end of May. It becomes clearer in the following weeks, rising further to the south. Every year at Massey Albany we plant native trees, sometimes at dawn, this year at midday on the shortest day of the year, to acknowledge our pledge to Papatuanuku (Earth Mother) and to celebrate our te reo Maori (Maori language).
