Perhaps they are trying creativity, design thinking, agile or whatever in a sequence that is doomed to fail. Often we confuse the terms, assume skills that don’t exist, or think being busy means being fast. These behaviours and approaches continue to turn the simple into complex. We will discuss a process that will help you calibrate where your organisation or community is when benchmarked against best practice. The benchmark is based on 35 years practice and research in 5 countries. We will then outline the eight steps required to embed an innovation system into your organisation and also help you identify the many ways creative thinking is sometimes stifled! Finally, we will discuss some lessons learned about how universities and business communities can work together successfully in this process.

About Dr Marcus Powe: Marcus founded EIC Growth Pty Ltd to assist CEO’s and leaders to implement, embed and measure creativity and innovation systems that result in enterprising behaviours. He specialises in the growth of for profit and not for profit organisations that operate in the turbulence of national and international market places. Marcus also works extensively with Aboriginal, Torres Strait, Maori and Hawaiian communities to assist them achieve economic self-determination through the skills of innovation and entrepreneurship.
