Security is an increasingly important part of our life and development. New Zealand's borders are not immune anymore to new threats and challenges such as cyber attacks, climate change and resultant natural disasters. Transnational crime makes New Zealand more vulnerable too. Our country's economic progress depends on secure trade routes and maritime lanes, as well as health, food and biosecurity.

A major or minor in Security studies will considerably open up employment opportunities in new areas and add work readiness skills to help differentiate you in the work force, in areas such as Foreign Affairs, Customs, Immigration, Defence, Ministry of Primary Industries, Ministry of Business Innovation and Enterprise, Police and Intelligence. New Zealand business companies are in need of qualified security experts in some of those areas as well.
