Polyfest: Is THE biggest Maori and Polynesian Secondary School cultural dance festival that occurs each year. This event draws more than 9000 students from 220 performance groups from 60 different schools around Auckland performing at a 4-day event. Additionally, students are involved in Polyfest - speech competitions on the Niuean, Samoan, Cook Island and Tongan stages. It is proven that students who connect with their culture and connect into the school get better academic outcomes. This encouraged at Massey University where Pacific students are reminded that you "Don't give up who you are, to become what you want to be" - a young Pacific person's cultural identity is further reinforced and encouraged when they come and study at Massey University. Massey University have been proud sponsors of Tongan Stage for the last 12-years - this sponsorship is led by the Office of the AVC Māori and Pasifika and supported by Colleges who have an integral part to play in promoting Massey at the event.
