An engagement specialist with more than 18 years’ experience in leadership roles in universities in New Zealand, Australia and, most recently, Britain, has been appointed to a new role at Massey University as Deputy Vice-Chancellor Students and Alumni.

Tere McGonagle-Daly, of Ngāti Whakaue ki Maketu, is currently Pro Vice-Chancellor, External Relations at Solent University in Southampton, England.

Mr McGonagle-Daly was previously deputy director of marketing, recruitment and admissions at London South Bank University, director of sales and marketing at Carrick Education Group in Melbourne and general manager of marketing and recruitment at Victoria University in Melbourne. Prior to that he was Massey’s international marketing and recruitment manager based at Auckland.

Massey Vice-Chancellor Professor Jan Thomas says she is delighted to announce Mr McGonagle-Daly’s appointment to a senior leadership role created specifically to enhance the student journey, from recruitment to graduation and the ongoing relationship with alumni, of which Massey has more than 140,000 globally.

“The role will focus on domestic student recruitment, the student experience, the student voice and the intersection of these across the entire student journey to create a student environment – both digital and physical – that is an exemplar of best practice,” Professor Thomas says. “In Tere we have identified someone with the background, the understanding and the ideas to lead the enhancement of the quality of students’ experience, to ensure students and alumni are Massey’s greatest ambassadors and remain connected throughout their lives.”

Mr McGonagle-Daly graduated from the University of Waikato and is currently completing a Doctor of Business Administration in the field of strategic marketing and internationalisation at London South Bank University.

He says he is thrilled to be returning to Massey. “I aim to further enhance all activities across our student journey, in partnership with our student and alumni communities. Massey’s mission and values very much resonate with me. I’m passionate about providing a transformational student experience for all students and undertaking impactful activities that shape the future of the world. I’m looking forward to working together to enable our students, alumni, staff and wider communities to do brilliant things.”

He will take up the role in November.
