Final update at 7.00pm Tuesday: The gas leak impacting the Auckland campus East Precinct has been repaired, and gas supply has been restored to all buildings on campus.

Heating, cooking and hot water facilities have now resumed to normal.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Update at 10.00am Tuesday: Contractors have been working overnight to repair the fracture in the gas pipe near the Massey Business School on the East Precinct.

Due to ongoing excavation works to reach the source of the leak, the gas supply will remain off for the rest of the day.

As indicated yesterday, the cut to the gas supply will impact heating, hot water and cooking facilities on campus. Students and staff are asked to conserve hot water.

The food and retail vendors on site are aware of the situation and remain open, as are the Library and Recreation Centre.

Further updates will be made later today.

Update at 4.13pm Monday: Contractors have discovered the source of the gas leak at the Auckland campus East Precinct and will work overnight to repair it. Gas supplies will not be restored until the repair work is done, possibly tomorrow. This is impacting on space heating, hot water and cooking facilities at the campus but lectures have not been affected and the campus remains open.

Heating and cooking facilities at student accommodation are unaffected but showers at a nearby location are being arranged for residents for tomorrow morning.

The Library will remain open this evening and close at midnight, as scheduled, as will the Recreation Centre, which closes at 10pm. Hot water supplies for showers in the centre are likely to be limited.

If staff or students have any questions or wish to report anything in relation to this matter please contact campus security on 0800 627 750. An update will be provided tomorrow.

Update at 1.40pm Monday: The gas supply to the Auckland campus East Precinct has been cut off after a gas leak was discovered near the Massey Business School building.

While there is no immediate danger to the public, there will be an impact on space heating, hot water and cooking facilities at the campus until the source of the leak is discovered and repaired.

Contingency plans are being worked on by staff.

An update will be provided as soon as more information is available.
