The Massey team ready at Te Matatini
The country’s biggest kapa haka festival, Te Matatini was held in Wellington last week and Massey University showed its support as a strategic sponsor. Staff from the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Māori and Māori staff from around the University were on hand to talk to people interested in our programmes at an exhibition stall.
Mū Tōrere
A big drawcard was a Massey branded floor version of the Māori board game ‘Mū Tōrere’ which had festival goers of all ages competing against Massey team members for prizes. Massey was also represented on stage with one of the MC’s our own Te Hamua Nikora of Pūhoro STEM Academy and a number of students and staff participating in the competition.
More than 50,000 people attended the five-day event and the winning team was Ngā Tūmanako of Auckland. The next Te Matatini will be held in Auckland at Eden Park in 2021.
