Massey appoints two new deans

The past few weeks have seen the appointment of Damian Lodge to the role of dean, academic and Dr Gavin Clark to the newly established role of dean, enterprise.

The past few weeks have seen the appointment of Damian Lodge to the role of dean, academic and Dr Gavin Clark to the newly established role of dean, enterprise.

Both roles report to Provost Professor Giselle Byrnes and will be supported by the dean, research Dr Tracy Riley.

Damian Lodge

Massey University has appointed Damian Lodge to the role of dean, academic, following the departure of Professor Sarah Leberman to take up the role of Professor of Leadership within the Massey Business School.

Currently the director of library, teaching and learning and chair of the Learning and Teaching Subcommittee of Academic Board at Lincoln University, Mr Lodge has held roles in universities across New Zealand and Australia for the past 25 years. During his time at Lincoln University, he has implemented initiatives around blended learning, student evaluations, learning analytics, student retention and improving academic quality.

Prior to his current role, he was the director of the Centre for Information Studies at Charles Sturt University in Australia where he managed large online distance education programmes and taught in the areas of information science and leadership.

Mr Lodge will be based on the Manawatū campus and commences on November 19.

Dr Gavin Clark

A trained industrial microbiologist and commercialisation specialist, Dr Gavin Clark, has been appointed to a new role as Massey University’s dean, enterprise.

The dean is responsible for the University’s research commercialisation and business development and significantly advancing its enterprise agenda.

Currently the chief executive officer of dental materials business Silventum and commercialisation manager for the MacDiarmid Institute, Dr Clark has held several other senior commercialisation roles, including serving as director of commercialisation at Massey from 2003 to 2007.

He completed his PhD in microbiology from the University of Surrey in 1993, having obtained a scholarship from Glaxo Group Research.

Dr Clark commences in the new role in January.
