The past month has seen Massey University farewell two long-serving and highly-regarded staff members in Manawatū and Auckland, Dr Sandi Shillington and Andrea Davies.
The last day of the University year, next Thursday, will also mark the end of the campus registrars’ tenure, who have dutifully served the staff and students of their respective campuses for a combined total of 60 years.
The farewell for Manawatū campus registrar and 20-year veteran Dr Shillington was – at her request – a low-key affair that focused on the planned launch of the campus’ Memorial Grove.
Assistant Vice-Chancellor Operations, International and University Registrar Stuart Morriss spoke at both events and at both there were large numbers of staff and some former staff.
Ms Davies’ farewell saw the venue, the Round Room, decorated in orange splendor, with most of those present dressed at least in part in orange. During her 40-year stint at Massey, Ms Davies has been renowned for her love of orange.
Ms Davies gave a moving farewell speech to the 200 or so staff gathered that recounted the highlights of her time at Massey, which started on the Manawatū campus in 1978. She was one of the first staff at the new Auckland campus at Albany in 1993.
