The Centre for Educational Development
Mission Statement
The Centre for Educational Development is an educational community that values people, recognises diverse strengths, promotes innovation and creativity and celebrates success.
Professional Learning
The core business of the Centre for Educational Development (CED) at Massey University is supporting the professional learning needs of teachers, syndicates and schools in our region.
Over the many years the Centre for Educational Development has been working with teachers and schools, we have developed our understanding of effective professional learning. The ways of working with you in reflect these understandings.
There are four main ways that the Centre for Educational Development can support teaching and learning in your school. They are:
In-depth Professional Development (IPD):
In-depth Professional Development provides an opportunity for teachers to engage in a focused in-school professional development programme. IPDs are negotiated on request between advisers and teachers, either as individuals or groups of teachers. Research and past experience indicates that an IPD is most effective in bringing about change in teachers’ practice.
Teachers who are interested in participating in an IPD can contact the appropriate adviser or the Associate Director at the Centre for Educational Development to register interest.
Specifically Crafted Professional Learning:
Should you, your syndicate or your school have a specific professional learning need please do not hesitate to contact the CED to discuss how your needs might be met. Our team of advisers are keen to work with you and your staff to design and deliver professional development uniquely crafted to your particular requirements.
Courses:
Courses have been developed to allow participants to interact with new knowledge, skills and/or teaching practices. The details provided for each course within this book allow teachers to make an informed selection that best addresses their professional learning needs. All participants in courses should expect to receive at least one follow-up visit from the Course Director (if they are Massey University advisers).
Workshops and Clusters:
Workshops and clusters provide opportunities for participants to share resources, experiences and ideas in a collegial environment.
Follow up in school visits are not usually a part of clusters and workshops unless specifically requested.
