The Massey University Foundation is committed to respecting and protecting the rights of its benefactors.
We recognise that the philanthropic support of benefactors is vital to the future of Massey University.

Massey University’s responsibilities

The Massey University Foundation is committed to respecting and protecting the rights of its benefactors.
The Foundation acts in accordance with its Policy and in addition to this its fundraisers adhere to the following code of conduct. Through this code of conduct, the Foundation aims to give benefactors and the public full confidence in the Foundation and its activities.

  • We reserve the right to decline a gift in accordance with our policy
  • All benefactors will have access to the Foundation’s published financial statements
  • Foundation staff will always act with the utmost integrity and will respect donors wishes
  • We respect the interests of individuals and organisations seeking to give to the University
  • Only authorised representatives of the Massey University Foundation or the University may solicit gifts. We will tell benefactors whether those seeking gifts from them are volunteers, University staff or third-party agents
  • We will encourage benefactors to seek independent professional advice about the tax status, and any other business or legal implications, of their gifts or potential gifts. University staff may work with such advisers to help with gift arrangements
  • We will tell benefactors: the University's mission, the way the University intends to use their gift, the University’s capacity to use gifts effectively for their intended purposes
  • Staff liaising with benefactors and soliciting gifts will not grant or accept favours for personal gain. They will also avoid actual or apparent conflicts of interest
  • We will always respect information about benefactors and prospective benefactors and their gifts. We will make sure this information is handled confidentially, and as benefactors wish
  • We will proactively provide relevant information about the Foundation and the University, and the use of and progress with their gift
  • We will not pursue any programme, agreement, trust or contract with a benefactor, that is against their best interests and motivations
  • Benefactors can always expect professional behaviour from individuals representing the University
