Direct from salary giving, also known as payroll giving enables employees to donate directly from their salary or wage to a charity, with the tax deduction made at the time of the donation rather than being claimed back at the end of the tax year. So a donation of $10 would result in a net cost to the donor of just $6.67 while the charity still gets $10.
In August 2011 Massey made direct from salary giving available to its staff. At this point direct from salary giving is available to only Massey University Foundation appeals.
The Foundation is the registered charity that supports teaching, learning and facilities at Massey.
If you are not Massey staff but wish to give directly to the Foundation from your salary or wage – contact the Foundation and we can tell you how your workplace can adopt the Foundation as one of its preferred charities for salary giving.
The Foundation is governed by its own board of trustees and holds its funds, including all donations, externally from the University. Donations and other income are invested with an approved fund manager.
The Foundation has a goal of achieving a $100 million endowment fund for the University. It is under no illusions about the challenge this represents in the ongoing tough economic climate faced throughout the world.
However, a relatively small regular donation by Massey’s 3000 staff could have a major impact ($6 per fortnight from 3000 staff = $468,000 per annum) on the Foundation's ability to achieve its goal and finance the activities and facilities that will ensure Massey remains a world-class institution for future generations of students.
Queries about the scheme can be directed to Mitch Murdoch at the Massey University Foundation ext 5159, Tiritea House, Private Bag 11222, Palmerston North 4442.
