Find out about the many ways you can give to Massey University.
You can choose where you want your donation directed. We have a range of initiatives that we are seeking support for, alternatively you can make an ‘unrestricted gift’ to the University.
The Massey University staff fund appeal
The staff fund appeal will be endowed and the earnings will be distributed by a group of volunteer staff working with the Foundation.
It is envisaged that this fund will initially support academic and general bursaries for the development of staff. As the fund grows it could also support staff facilities and a discretionary fund to support staff in special circumstances.
The Prof Brian Murphy Scholarship Appeal
Professor Murphy died suddenly in October 2006, when he was acting head of the Department of Commerce at the College of Business on the University’s Albany campus.
Professor Murphy was known as a prominent practitioner of marketing research. He had spent more than 40 years exploring research methodology that would keep him at the front of his field both as a teacher and in practice. In the late 1960s he co-founded the National Research Bureau and was a key figure in establishing the political opinion polls that made regular headlines in the New Zealand Herald and helped shape public opinion on the performance of the political leaders.
The Prof Brian Murphy Memorial Scholarship
Fund will provide scholarships for senior students completing research in marketing, business ethics or future studies.
The New Zealand Institute for Advanced Study – SIR NEIL WATERS SCHOLARSHIP APPEAL
The New Zealand Institute for Advanced Study (NZIAS) was founded three years ago to provide an environment where scholars of exceptional calibre can pursue interdisciplinary fundamental scholarship.
Presently the institute provides a supportive environment for a team of five world-renowned scientists all with true international reputations.
In order to allow more young people to learn from, and study with, this distinguished professoriate, the NZIAS is fundraising to support the Sir Neil Waters Scholarship for post graduate study. The NZIAS has a goal to endow a sum of around $500,000 for this scholarship over the next four years. The income from this sum would provide a scholarship in perpetuity.
The Innovation Fund
Massey has a proven record of success in the effective exploitation of intellectual capital arising from research. Our high throughput model ensures that innovative IP opportunities are translated into business-ready proposals and then developed for commercial advantage with the support of key partners. The key to this success has been the ability to target support around projects with a validated IP element at the most critical point in their development - the transition from valuable idea to proof of concept. Often funding for the necessary research to validate these projects is challenging to secure and valuable IP management options are often forfeited because of an absence of funds. The Innovation Fund will provide funds to pump prime key research projects where the potential IP value has been established to the proof of concept stage. Long term the returns from these investments will assist in making in this fund a sustainable platform to underpin Massey Research.
College Funds are to be used at the discretion of the College Pro-Vice Chancellor (with approval from the Foundation board) for the development and advancement of the College. Both the Institute of Education and the College of Business have development funds that you can make a gift to.

The Heritage Fund Appeal
Massey has a rich and diverse heritage which is reflected in the grounds and buildings of its campuses. As it approaches its 90th anniversary, preserving its heritage takes on new significance and Massey has created the Massey Heritage Precinct in order to ensure that some of its oldest and best known buildings are preserved for future generations. The precinct is an area of historic importance on the Manawatu campus consisting of the Sir Geoffrey Peren Building, Refectory, Old Registry and Tiritea House. These unique buildings are in need of much upgrading to preserve them including some essential work to ensure that they are compliant with the updated earthquake code.
Unrestricted gifts will be endowed and the proceeds used to ensure that teaching, research and learning at Massey remain first class, allowing us to drive New Zealand forward and compete in the global academic market place. Unrestricted gifts are often the hardest gifts for the Foundation to solicit – but can be some of the most valuable. Your gift will be used for teaching, research, facilities and scholarships.
