The Academic Reform Project
The Academic Reform Project positions the University with sustainable and defining programmes of study that are delivered in distinctive, innovative and accessible ways. Graduates of Massey University will be creative, innovative and connected with industry, the professions, and their disciplines. Broad objectives include, but are not limited to:
- Providing students with an academic experience that builds graduates distinguished by what they learn, how they learn, and their ability to apply their learning in real-world contexts.
- Focusing the distinctive and defining dimensions of our qualifications in terms of (broadly) discipline, delivery methodology, and location.
- Rationalising the breadth of our qualification portfolio to facilitate the application of human and financial resources on enhancing the quality and attractiveness of qualifications.
- Ensuring academic policies and guidelines build and maintain high academic standards in a sustainable suite of qualifications.
- Establishing the evidence bases needed to support the continuous improvement of our academic portfolio.
The Project comprises a number of interrelated work areas that were the subject of intensive activity in 2010 and 2011. The academic developments and emerging outcomes of the Academic Reform Project include a Teaching and Learning Framework that articulates Massey's Signature Platforms, Defining Specialisations and the Massey Model of Teaching and Learning. The Framework will guide continuing development, expansion and renewel of the academic portfolio in 2012 and beyond.
