The Office of the Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Academic & International)

The Office of the AVC (Academic & International):

  • provides advice and strategic planning on academic matters, including the development, implementation and oversight of policy, practice and related regulations;

  • coordinates and manages key national shared services providing support to teaching and learning at the University;

  • facilitates the internal approval, review and enhancement processes for the academic portfolio of qualifications; and

  • represents the interests and concerns of the University nationally on bodies such as the Universities New Zealand Committee on University Academic Programmes (CUAP).

Staff in the division apply their interdisciplinary expertise to issues and activities associated with all aspects of teaching and learning.  The Office includes:

  • The Academic Policy & Regulations Unit (APRU) - responsible for upholding the integrity of the qualification framework and the academic decision-making process, and managing risk through the creation of internal procedures and compliance with external regulatory requirements.
  • The Distance Education and Learning Futures Alliance (DELFA) - supporting new models and emerging approaches to tertiary education for today's digitally wired, globally connected and rapidly changing higher education landscape.
  • The International Office - supporting international developments, international relations, student mobility, and international student marketing, recruitment and admissions.
  • The Library - providing services, support, guidance and access to information resources to meet the teaching, learning and research needs of all Massey staff and students.
  • The National Centre for Teaching & Learning - providing strategic leadership for teaching and learning development, and working in close partnership with three campus-based Teaching and Learning Centres at Albany, Manawatu and Wellington to offer a range of services for staff and students.
  • Professional and Continuing Education (PaCE) - specialising in short courses, university preparation, international study tours and English language programmes.
  • Student Administration - carrying out the core student-facing operational functions that support teaching and learning and underpin the contractual relationships between the University, students and government agencies.
  • The Student Management System Support Unit (SSS Unit) responsible for developing the process capabilities and technical competencies underpinning student administration.
