Blended and distance education
The defining features of Massey’s contemporary teaching and learning environment derive from its long and unique commitment to the provision of a comprehensive, high-quality university-level education to a geographically dispersed and culturally diverse population. Massey University is distinguished by offering education on four major campuses, including through our virtual distance campus, and its blended approach supported by advanced pedagogies and technologies to provide life-long learning directed towards students of all ages and cultures and stages of their learning pathway, throughout New Zealand and internationally.
Strategic Objectives
Massey University aims to transform the student learning experience through a significant investment in blended and distance education. Our aims are twofold. First, we want to improve the educational success of all learners by broadening and enriching the learning experience through new digital media. Second, we want to provide unsurpassed access to engaging and flexible high quality university-level education where on-campus, distance and international students have equivalent learning experiences. To achieve these twin aims we have defined eight strategic objectives:
- To provide all learners with a consistent, coherent and digitally enriched educational experience.
- To support staff to effectively and purposefully integrate Stream in all papers and programmes.
- To enhance the features and infrastructure of Stream to meet future teaching and learning requirements.
- To enhance the quality and effectiveness of teaching through appropriate learning designs, templates and review systems.
- To extend the range and quality of student services with the use of technology to enhance learner engagement.
- To enhance the level of awareness, understanding and coordination of strategic initiatives in blended and distance education.
- To build greater capacity and capability for internationalisation through appropriate blended and distance delivery systems.
- To foster opportunities for research and scholarly engagement in blended and distance education.
