2018 application due dates

Starting a new programme

There are two steps; applying for admission and applying for courses. There are additional pre-admission steps for new international applicants living outside New Zealand.

Admission is the first step you take by applying for entry into your chosen programme. For most programmes you can apply up to the start of semester. We assess your application to check that you meet the entry requirements.

Some programmes include an interview, referee statements or screening as part of their admission process. It takes longer to assess these applications and therefore their closing dates for applying are earlier than the start of semester. Programmes include Aviation, Business, Design, Fine Arts, Education, Journalism, Music, Nursing, Nutrition, Social Work and Psychology qualifications.

Depending on your programme selection, admission can take a few days or a few weeks so we recommend applying as early as possible. If you are successful, you will receive an Offer of Place and once you have accepted it, you can move on to choosing your courses.

Apply for your courses

If you have accepted your Offer of Place or are currently enrolled, you can apply for your courses. We assess your course choices to check that you meet the requirements. We recommend applying for and, if necessary, adding courses as early as you can before the course start date.

In exceptional circumstances, a course may be added after the start date. You can apply for special permission in your student homepage via the Qualification and courses tab and then choosing 'Course enrolment'. Acceptance is not guaranteed. Factors to be considered for special permission include:

  • Your ability to successfully complete the course requirements in a reduced time-frame.
  • How much learning time and assignment work you will need to make up.
  • Impact on group work.
  • Delayed access to study resources.
  • If assignment due dates will be compromised.
  • If places are still available in the course.
