Massey University Doctoral Completion Grants offer financial support for doctoral candidates in the final stages of developing their thesis or exegesis for submission for examination.
These grants are designed for full-time and part-time, domestic and international doctoral candidates who have a completion date on or before 31 December in the year of the award, to enable them to submit their thesis for examination, with no further anticipated extensions or suspensions. Preference will be given to candidates who have not had an extension; however, all candidates with a 2017 completion date are encouraged to apply.
All eligible candidates who apply, with the support of their supervisor, will have their applications considered by a selection panel comprised of members of the University Scholarships Committee and Doctoral Research Committee, chaired by the Dean, Research. The panel will recommend successful applicants to the University Scholarships Committee for final approval at the October meeting of the committee. Notification about the success of each application will be within one week of the meeting. Notification by email will be sent to candidates, their supervisor and the head of unit or delegated postgraduate coordinator.
The grant will be awarded to candidates deemed most likely to submit their thesis or creative work for examination by31 December in the year of the award, and based on support from the supervisor and head of academic unit. The Graduate Research School will verify the candidate’s completion dates and progress to date. Importantly, the committee will also consider the candidate’s milestones to completion.
The Massey University Doctoral Completion Grant is valued at $4,166 (2 months equivalent of a doctoral scholarship) and is paid in two monthly instalments upon confirmation of candidate’s acceptance of the grant. The grant is tax-free.
The grant is designed to support the candidate to focus on their doctoral research full-time in the final two months prior to submission for examination. Therefore, it is expected the candidate will be working full-time on the final draft of the thesis or exegesis.
Applications are open from 1 September to 30 September 2017.
Applications can be requested by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Applications should be completed by the candidate, with support from the main supervisor. The application includes supervisor-candidate agreed milestones to submission for examination no later than 31 December in the year of the award, and the application should be endorsed by the head of academic unit or delegated postgraduate coordinator.
Candidates are expected to submit their thesis for examination by 31 December in the year of the award, without any further extensions or suspensions. Candidates requiring additional time to submit for examination should make application in writing to the Dean, Research, with support from the supervisors.
