The scholarship was established in 2001 and is financed annually by the Property Institute of New Zealand. The main purpose of the scholarship is to promote postgraduate study in or relating to the field of property at Auckland, Massey and Lincoln Universities and Unitec New Zealand.

Conditions:
1. The Scholarship will be known as the Property Institute of New Zealand Postgraduate Scholarship.

2. One Scholarship of $2500 and including one free conference registration to the Property Institute annual conference, excluding accommodation and transport costs, will be awarded annually to a student from Lincoln, Massey, Auckland Universities and Unitec New Zealand and will be tenable for one year.

3. The Scholarship may be awarded to any (full or part-time) student undertaking postgraduate study in one or more of the following areas:
i.Real Property Valuation (Urban or Rural)
ii.Property Management
iii.Facility Management
iv.Property Advisory
v.Plant and Machinery Valuation

4. If the successful recipient is not a member of the Property Institute of New Zealand, an invitation to join will be given, along with one year's free membership.

5. The basis of selection will be academic merit and study being of relevance to the property industry.

6. The Scholarship will be awarded and the recipient will be selected by an awards sub-committee made up of Property Institute Board members, and input from relevant University Departments/staff may also be given.

7. The Scholarship's emolument will be paid either in one instalment in the first semester or two instalments, one in each semester.

8. The Property Institute of New Zealand's Board is not obliged to make an award if there is no candidate of sufficient merit.

9. The Scholarship may be held in conjunction with other awards.

10. In accepting the Scholarship the recipient undertakes:
-To advise the Property Institute of New Zealand of the grade of pass awarded.
-To provide the Institute with a digitised version of the thesis or study paper so that it can be published on the Institute's website.
-To be prepared to present a PowerPoint presentation of the project to an appropriate Property Institute audience.
-To provide the Institute with a summary paper or papers for publication in the Australia and New Zealand Property Journal.

11. The Property Institute of New Zealand reserves the right to have an input into the course of study and the direction in which the study will proceed. It is therefore important that the supporting papers with the application be full and comprehensive in this regard. Once a course of study is approved the Institute expects it to be adhered to. Variations from the course should be advised to the Institute.

12. The training institute at which the recipient applies, has the power to terminate or suspend a Scholarship, if it receives an unsatisfactory report on the progress of a scholar. It also has the power to amend or vary these regulations in consultation with the Property Institute.

13. The Property Institute of New Zealand reserves the right to use names, photographs, and details of successful applicants for advertising purposes.
