Once you apply, the University and your named referees are contacted to provide relevant information. You must allow both the Scholarships Office and your referees time to complete these actions before the closing date. The University Scholarships Office cannot guarantee an immediate response to these requests.

The money for this scholarship has been made available by a bequest from the estate of Edith Fraser who wished that it be used for an award in agricultural or silvicultural sciences.

The scholarship shall be tenable in any university in New Zealand for postgraduate study in either agricultural science or silvicultural science.

Applicants must be graduates of a New Zealand university and be New Zealand citizens.

Value and Tenure
The scholarship will be tenable for a period of one year and be of such an amount as the New Zealand Vice Chancellors' Committee from time to time will decide, having regard to the income available for the purpose (the current value is $10,000 per annum).

Every scholar shall provide to Universities New Zealand any reports that the selection committee may require.

Every scholar shall be required to devote their whole time during their tenure of the scholarship to the approved programme of study and may not hold a position of emolument except on such terms and conditions as Universities New Zealand may from time to time determine.

Candidates must complete an application using the Universities NZ on-line scholarships application website: https://universitiesnz.communityforce.com

The closing date by which applications must be COMPLETE, with references included, and submitted through the on-line website is 1 October.

The on-line application form will request and applicants must provide:
a) proof of NZ citizenship.
b) a statement outliining the proposed couse of study.
c) a statement outlining the candidate's present extracurricular activities and any other particulars that may prove useful to the selection committee.

A copy of the candidate's academic trancript will be provided by the candidate's university as part of the applicaiton process.

Candidates should also provide the names of two persons whom have agreed to rpovide confidential references. These references must be added to the on-line application by the closing date.

Candidates will be assessed on academic achievement, relevance and competence of proposed research, strength of referee support and contribution to other activities relevant to the scholarship.

No scholarhip shall be awarded if, in the opinion of the selection committee, there is no candidate of sufficient merit applying.

The selection committee's decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into following the selection meeting.

Universities New Zealand shall have power to terminate any such scholarship and the emoluments hereunder at any time if not satisfied with the work or the conduct of the scholar.
