The James Bull Group Scholarship will be offered annually to people who are either –
-relatives of family and/or staff of the James Bull Group or
-a member of a family member residing within the Manawatu, Wanganui, Rangitikei, Horowhenua, Palmerston North and Ruapehu, Wairarapa and Hawkes Bay districts
and over the age of 18 and eligible for study at a tertiary institution and who intend to study for an agricultural degree as a student of Massey University.
Applications are invited from students intending to enrol for a full-time course of study for an agricultural degree programme of study with Massey University at the Palmerston North campus.
The scholarship shall be awarded for amount of $5000.00 per annum for a total of three consecutive years. The award will be awarded to students who can demonstrate excellence in their schooling and have a strong aptitude for farming.
Terms and conditions
1.The scholarship shall be known as the James Bull Group Scholarship in agriculture.
2. The scholarship shall be open to people who are either –
- relatives of family and/or staff of the James Bull Group or
- a member of a family member residing within the Manawatu, Wanganui, Rangitikei, Horowhenua, Palmerston North and Ruapehu, Wairarapa and Hawkes Bay districts
who are intending to enrol for in a full-time course of study for an agricultural degree programme at the Palmerston North campus of Massey University in the year following application.
3.Recipients of the scholarship must stay within the intended programme of study in agriculture for the three-year period in order to receive the award. However, if the recipient leaves the agriculture programme prior to the end of the three consecutive academic years, then the student will need to repay (pro-rata) monies [depending on the award received] to the James Bull Group.
4.The JBG Scholarship shall be on the recommendation of the Trust Selection Committee administering the scholarship, which shall comprise a member of the James Bull Group management team, an industry representative and a representative from the Bull family. If for some reason one of the selection panel has a conflict of interest with an applicant for that current year, they will not be on the selection panel.
5.The JBG Scholarship is tenable with any other Scholarship or Bursary provided that the rules of the other award allow it.
6.A student can receive a JBG Scholarship for the three-year period from the James Bull Group only once.
7.A student can receive a JBG Scholarship only once they have been accepted into an agricultural programme within the University.
8.Payment of the scholarship will be made to the recipient on the production of a fees statement from the University and can be used for tuition fees, books and other fees associated with the course.
9.Details of the recipients of the JBG Scholarship may be outlined in external publications.
10.Candidates shall formally apply for the JBG Scholarship in writing by providing the following:
•A completed JBG Scholarship application form
•An up-to-date Curriculum Vitae
•A written statement from the student indicating why they would like the award and their view of the agriculture industry for the next 10 years (1500 word maximum limit)
•A copy of NCEA results (if applicable)
•Two letters of reference, one from a secondary school principal/head teacher (if recent school leaver) and the other from a person of standing in the community,

The completed application should be submitted no later than the 16 December 2016. Candidates who fail to do this will not have their applications considered.
