2017 Medals and Awards
The call for nominations for the 2017 round is now open. The closing date is 30 April 2017. This is to allow the process to proceed in time for the New Zealand Research Honours Dinner which will be held on 10 October 2017.
New Early Career Awards
Four early career awards are being offered in 2017, which includes renaming two current awards. These are:
Royal Society Te Aparangi Early Career Research Excellence Award for the Humanities
Royal Society Te Aparangi Early Career Research Excellence Award for Social Sciences
Royal Society Te Aparangi Early Career Research Excellence Award for Science (the Hamilton Award)
Royal Society Te Aparangi Early Career Research Excellence Award for Technology, Applied Science and Engineering (the Cooper Award)
General criteria for all Medals and Awards
Significant parts of the work being recognised need to have been undertaken in New Zealand.
Council and Academy Executive Committee members cannot be nominated for any Royal Society of New Zealand awards or medals during their Council term.
The Academy Executive Committee may limit eligibility for any medal or award to ensure that no person is recognised more than once by the Society for what is substantially the same contribution to research or scholarship.
Unless the Academy Executive Committee decides there are extraordinary circumstances to justify an exception, there shall normally be a single winner of each award or medal in a given year.
Unless the Academy Executive Committee decides that there are extraordinary circumstances to justify an exception, no person shall be entitled to be awarded more than one medal or award in a given year.
The Academy Executive Committee shall be the final arbiter on the selection of medals and awards of the Society.
