Tenure and value
One Scholarship to the value of $3000 shall be awarded annually.
Applicants must be enrolled in full time study at Massey University and undertaking either an Honours research project or Masterate thesis.
The Scholarship shall be awarded on the basis of academic merit and on the basis of the proposed research project. The research project or Masters thesis subject area is open but must have relevance to the natural environment at Nga Manu Nature Reserve in Waikanae. Preference will be given for projects entirely or partially based at Nga Manu Nature Reserve.
Responsibility for the award
A Selection Committee shall make a recommendation to the Scholarships Committee for the award of the scholarship.
The Selection Committee shall consist of the College of Sciences Representative on the University Scholarships Committee (Chair) and two academic staff members from the Ecology / Conservation Biology area. Other academic staff may be included where relevant.
The emolument will be paid in two equal instalments in August and October.
Conditions of the award
In making a recommendation for this award the Selection Committee shall take into account other scholarships, bursaries and awards held by the candidates, with a view to achieving a fair distribution of monies among qualifying candidates.
If there are no applicants of sufficient merit the Selection Committee may refrain from making an award.
The Scholar will acknowledge the financial assistance of the Nga Manu Trust in any publication prepared by the scholar that uses findings derived from the research funded under this Scholarship.
Nga Manu Trust acknowledges that copyright over the final research report remains with the scholarship recipient. However, by applying for the scholarship the applicant consents to providing a summary of any findings for publication on the Trust website or for educational and publicity purposes. The summary of any findings is to be presented in an electronic format and be suitable for publication on the website.
