Purpose
This bursary was established in 2008 from the Estate of Mr Peter Collett for extramural students who have successfully completed at least two papers and are continuing to study extramurally in their first undergraduate degree at Massey University. The purpose is to provide assistance to students in financial need.

Tenure and value
The Bursary shall be awarded annually. The value of the Peter Collett Bursary shall be up to a total value of $2,000 with the amount determined each year from the interest earned on the capital fund.

Eligibility
Applicants must have successfully completed a minimum of 30 credits extramurally at Massey University. In the year of the award applicants will be enrolled as an extramural student in a minimum of 30 credits in a first undergraduate degree.
Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents.

Criteria
The primary consideration in making the awards shall be the applicants' financial circumstances. Academic merit and good character will also be taken into consideration.

Responsibility for the Award
The Bursary shall be awarded annually by the University Scholarships Committee.

Payment
The Bursary will be paid in two instalments in April and August.

Conditions of the Award
In recommending the award of a Bursary the University Scholarships Committee will take account of other scholarships and bursaries held by the applicant with a view to achieving a reasonable distribution of monies among qualifying candidates.
If there are not candidates of sufficient merit the Scholarships Committee may refrain from making an award.
At the discretion of the University, the annual interest may be reinvested to maintain the value of the capital fund, in which case no Bursary shall be awarded in that year.
Recipients may hold the Bursary more than once but must reapply on each occasion.
