Purpose
The Ravensdown Agricultural Research Scholarship is intended for the support of students enrolled in a PhD or the research year of a masterate programme within agriculture or horticulture.

Background
This scholarship was established in 2011 with funds accumulated from rebates on Ravensdown fertilisers bought by Massey University’s farms. The scholarship is funded from interest on this initial capital sum and is supplemented each year by a grant from Ravensdown Ltd.

Value and tenure
The scholarship is offered to a maximum value of $5000 and is normally offered annually.

At the discretion of the University all, or part, of the annual interest may be reinvested to maintain the value of the capital fund so the scholarship may not be granted each and every year.

The tenure is for a single academic year but PhD students are welcome to reapply in later years.

Typical number on offer
One scholarship is typically offered each year.

Eligibility
Applicants must be enrolled in a PhD or the research year of a masterate programme within agriculture or horticulture, with preference given to those applicants undertaking research in soil nutrient management.

Selection criteria
In recommending the award, academic merit and other scholarships and bursaries held by the applicants are taken into account.

Selection panel
The selection panel consists of a representative of Ravensdown Ltd, a representative of the Fertiliser & Lime Research Centre and Chair of the Applied Academic Programmes Scholarships Committee.

The selection panel has the right to refrain from making an award if there are no suitable applicants and its decision is final.

Conditions of the scholarship
Recipients are expected to acknowledge the support received from the scholarship within their thesis and any publications resulting from the research being supported by the award.

Closing date
Applications close on the 10 March in the year in which the award is to be made. Application forms (ASSC.3) can be downloaded here. Completed applications are to be sent to Dr Kerry Harrington, K.Harrington@massey.ac.nz. Alternatively, hard copy applications can be delivered to Dr Kerry Harrington’s office AH 302.

Application cannot be accepted before 10/12/2018.
