Completed Projects

Project Title: Near Real-time Monitoring of Coastal Sediments

The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MODIS) is in orbit on two NASA satellites, Terra and Aqua, with Terra acquiring imagery each morning and Aqua each afternoon. The width of these images is over 2500km so even though they don't cover the same area exactly, New Zealand can be found in the images on most days when it is not covered in cloud. MODIS has seven bands recording radiance in the visible and near-infrared regions of the spectrum; these bands enable the production of true colour images like the one below for April 29, 2011.
