Richard Burchell BSc, BSc (Hons), BVSc, MMedVet, DECVIM-CA

Senior Lecturer in Small Animal Medicine (Academic Track)

Institute of Vet, Animal and Biomedical Sciences

After school I completed a Bachelor of Science majoring in microbiology and zoology, followed by an honours year in microbiology/molecular biology. I then completed my bachelor of veterinary science at the University of Pretoria and after spending a year in general practice, I joined a small animal referral practice and started working as a referral veterinarian. During this time I started my Masters in Veterinary Medicine, and then two years later was employed by the University of Pretoria as a lecturer in Medcine. During this time I completed a residency in small animal internal medicine throught the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. After a short stint in private Specialist Practice, I once again heeded the clarion call of academia and joined team medicine at Massey.
