My teaching in the Institute of Education includes undergraduate papers about child development, relationships and development, and risk and resilience through the lifespan. I also coordinate the Masters-level research projects (systematic reviews) in the counselling and guidance programme. My research interests include social-emotional learning, strengthening mental health, prevention of bullying in schools, and resilence and healing from trauma and abuse, counsellor wellbeing. My recent work is underpinned by a commitment to supporting the holistic development and wellbeing of diverse children, adolescents, and their families within the school and home context. I am interesting in exploring, critiquing, and pushing boundaries with scientific research - and value knowledge based on experience and wisdom, and collaborative research with Māori (and other cultural) partners at the interface of different knowledge-systems. Te Tiriti o Waitangi has implications for researchers and research.

I am particularly interested in supervising research that is linked to real world settings and priorities, has tangible benefits, and promotes social justice and equity.
