Dr Peter Rawlins

Senior Lecturer

Institute of Education

Academic Programme Director

CoHSS - Deputy PVC's Office

I have been a teacher since 1985. After 18 years working as a secondary mathematics teacher and senior instructor at an outdoor centre I moved to Massey at the start of 2003. My main area of teaching is in assessment at the undergraduate and post-graduate level.  I also teach a mixed methods research course and co-teach the professional inquiry course in the Masters of Education qualification. My current research projects are primarily mixed methods projects investigating a number of initiatives in primary and secondary schools.  I am also interested in research into policy development and its impact.

My current research projects are primarily mixed methods projects investigating a number of initiatives in primary and secondary schools.  The first of these is evaluating a trial to put a driving licence scheme into rural secondary schools.  The second investigates changes in teacher self-efficacy as a result of a two-year focus of collaborative professional learning in a group of six primary schools.  I am also involved in a joint PPTA/Massey project investigating the effect of the introduction of charter schools on main stream state funded schools.  My colleagues Dr Tony Carusi and Dr Karen Ashton and I are also writing up a number of articles following up from our work examining the literature base for the Investigating in Educational Success policy.
