Associate Professor Angie Farrow B.Ed, M.Ed, Ph.D

School of English and Media Studies

Angie is a professional playwright who has written numerous plays for theatre and radio.  She specialises in community theatre and experimental theatre and many of her plays have won national and international prizes.  Her work is regularly performed both in New Zealand and overseas.  She teaches theatre, public speaking and creative processes.  She is particularly interested in rapport and the way performers and audiences connect through text, body, voice, and breath.

  • Doctor of Philosophy (Drama) - Exeter University (2000)

Prizes and Awards

  • Winner of three international prizes for my short plays. These include winner of the Three Leeches Playwriting Competition (USA 2013), Winner of the Inspirito International Playwriting Competition from over 400 entries. (Toronto 2013 and Winner of Best Wild card at the Sydney Short and Sweet Competition with over 1200 entries (Sydney, 2014) - Three Leeches, USA; Sydney Short and Sweet Festival; Inspirit Festival (2013)
  • Since 2012, over 40 productions of my plays have been staged in schools, universities and theatre companies both here and in Australia. Licenses have been issued by New Zealand's leading theatre agent, Playmarket. - Various (2012)

I have won several teaching awards: including the Vice Chancellor's Award for Excellence In University Teaching (2003 and 2010), College Teaching Award  (Humanities and Social Sciences), 2002, National Teaching Excellence Award, 2010, and Teacher of the Year Award (MUSA) 2011.
