Rugby Study Abroad programme at Massey University, New Zealand
February to June (Semester One) - Palmerston North campus only
The Massey University Rugby-Study Abroad Programme is the perfect way to experience the Kiwi lifestyle and culture by playing rugby at the Massey University Rugby Football Club (M.U.R.F.C) based at the Palmerston North campus, while gaining credits towards your home university degree.
You do not have to be a ‘professional’ rugby player to join this programme, just a keen interest for New Zealand’s national passion, rugby. The programme is open to both genders at all levels and provides students with an excellent opportunity to improve their rugby skills and ability by training down under in the rugby capital, New Zealand. For students who already have finely tuned rugby skills, they are encouraged to apply additionally to the Rugby Academy programme, which is run by the Manawatu Rugby Football Union, for players who show professional potential.
Students are welcome to study at Massey University for one or two semesters. The club rugby season runs from March until July, so applicants commence their studies at Massey in February (Semester One) annually. Typically students study four undergraduate papers per semester and undertake a variety of courses across the five Colleges: Business, Creative Arts; Education; Humanities and Social Sciences; and Sciences, then play rugby as part of a Massey club team and join in the training sessions and Saturday games, outside of usual university classroom hours.
