“For me, Massey is my second family. I feel very happy and secure here, and I love living in Palmerston North. Massey has excellent facilities and a supportive environment for PhD students. I am amazed with the university library and I feel like I have everything I need to succeed here. The relationship between students and lecturers is very friendly and I always feel listened to and supported by my lecturers.
I was lucky enough to receive a NZAid scholarship to study both my Masters and PhD at Massey University. I first came to New Zealand in 2008 to complete my Masters in Development Studies, then I returned to Indonesia for three years to fulfil my scholarship requirements. In 2013, I returned to Palmerston North, New Zealand with my family to begin my PhD studies.
Moving to New Zealand to study has not only benefitted me but also my husband and two daughters. Palmerston North is a wonderful city to live in and raise a family. It has great facilities and the people here are very welcoming. Everything is accessible here so you don’t need to spend hours travelling. This helps me to easily manage my time and live a relaxed day-to-day life. There is also plenty to explore and as a family we have travelled extensively around New Zealand, which has been a great experience for my girls.
For my studies I am interested in how education and development is related. My thesis is on the decentralisation of education in Indonesia. With the knowledge I gain from Massey I hope to go back to my job at the Ministry of Education
and continue to improve education at the grass roots level. My vision is to lead an autonomous institution research body to do research for the benefit of education in Indonesia, not just do research for policy. The quality of education is very fragmented in Indonesia so I want to improve this. Massey has given me confidence to become an active global citizen and pursue my passion of making an impact through research.”
