Aviation has always been my passion and I wanted to get into the aviation industry with a great knowledge of the important aspects affecting this industry, so I decided to do my Bachelor and Master degree in Aviation Management at Massey University in New Zealand.
Studying at Massey is very challenging and exciting at the same time. The aviation programme is full of information, which encouraged me to read more in aviation books and academic journal articles to get a glance of what is happening in the aviation industry and its future trends. I really enjoyed this course, especially the time when my classmates and I interact and discuss different aviation topics with the respectful and knowledgeable lecturers.
I especially enjoyed learning more about airport planning and design in which we got to design a runway and an airport layout for our assignments. I also enjoyed learning about airline strategic management, which we had to study different airline cases (such as Singapore Airline and Emirates Airline) and see how their marketing initiatives and business model cost and benefit their revenue and reputation.
One of the best parts of my experience here at Massey is that the University campus “Turitea” is surrounded by beautiful nature, which allowed me to go for a nice walk in the surrounding tracks during my study break and that is why I think Massey has a unique and excellent studying environment.
At the moment, I am applying for different aviation jobs in the Gulf region and hopefully soon I’ll be working with one of the big players in the aviation industry such as Qatar Airways, Emirates Airline or the General Authority of Civil Aviation in Saudi Arabia (GACA).
My advice to future students is to work hard and take the most of every opportunity presented to you and try to engage with lecturers and students to make the most of your time here at Massey University.
