Despite being one of our most successful foreign and war correspondents, Diana Goodman is far from a household name in New Zealand. Massey University has now presented Dr Goodman with an honorary doctorate in recognition of her achievements.

Massey's journalism school has three more gongs to add to its collection following the 2016 Canon Media Awards. Massey University’s journalism programme received a special award for outstanding achievement and recent Massey students dominated the two major awards they are eligible for.

Dominion Post editor Bernadette Courtney says the top student on this year’s Massey postgraduate journalism course is “amazing”.
Each year, The Dominion Post awards $1000 to the student with the highest overall grades on the course.

A former food technologist who escaped the lab to “work with people” has been recognised for her engaging teaching techniques as the 2015 winner of the Richard Buchanan Teaching Excellence Award.
Dr Sandy Bulmer, from the School of Communication, Journalism and Marketing, is only the second lecturer from Massey University’s Albany campus to receive the award. She won for a teaching portfolio that highlighted “a student-centred focus to teaching and learning”.

Jess Roden has become the first student in New Zealand to complete a Master of Journalism.
Although the Master of Journalism is a common qualification overseas, Massey is the only university offering the qualification in New Zealand.

The National Brand Challenge competition is a key initiative of the Marketing Association of New Zealand. The initiative was launched for the second time on 16 August 2014. The competition provides the participating students (undergraduate and Honours) with an opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge to a practical, real-life business case.

A speech on native birds’ struggle for survival and a speech inspired by Lesley Elliott, mother of Sophie Elliott, are among the winners of Massey University’s Pro-Chancellor’s prizes in Speech Writing and Feature Writing.
The four prizes, of $200 each, were awarded to the top distance students and top internal students in Speech Writing and Feature Writing. They were donated by Massey University’s Chancellor, Chris Kelly.
