Jeannie's research explores the communicative and relational competencies that underpin an organisation's capabilty for creativity and innovation. Her findings - presented at international conferences in New Zealand Australia, Switzerland, Austria, and the USA - address for instance: the use of directness/indirectnes in online communication; communicative competence as an organisational asset; the use of humour in establing working relationships in diverse teams; managing relationships between various kinds of organisational communities; and the role of management in the devlopment of trust. A forthcoming article on establishing interpersonal rapport in a diverse team has been accepted for publication in the journal DIscourse and Communication. Jeannie serves on the editorial board of the journals PRiSM and the Communication Journal of New Zealand (CJNZ) and is guest editor for an upcoming (mid 2014) special issue of CJNZ.
Jeannie teaches communication papers and supervises student research in the School of Communication, Journalism and Marketing (College of Business) on Massey University's Wellington campus. Her research focuses on communication in organisations and the ways in which effective organisations create and sustain contexts that foster the innovative capabilities of their people. Before coming to academia Jeannie worked in a management role in the public health sector.
