Communications Advisor -Contact Energy
“The Bachelor of Communication degree ensures you’re well equipped for your first job in the industry and it increases your chances significantly of getting an interview when applying for a whole range of jobs…”
Working for one of the largest company, my team is responsible for Contact’s reputation management, which includes a variety of internal and external communication activities. On a day-today basis my role involves helping to provide strategic and tactical communications advice to others in the organisation, manage internal communication channels, develop social media strategies and implementation, create external company reports, build and maintain relationships with media, maintain community and iwi relations.
I liked the environment at Massey – felt it was down-to-earth and friendly. I also found they had a great range of supporting papers and the third year Communication Internship paper was extremely valuable both in theory and practical work experience and having it on my CV really helped me land my first job.
My degree helped me with getting familiar with the basics. It gave me a good grounding for a career in Communications and allowed me to develop the necessary technical skills, such as how to write a media release and communications strategy, needed to be good at my job. Also having the internship on my CV really helped me get my first job.

My degree really helped me in my first job. Recently I worked with a junior Communications advisor who had not done a Communications degree and it made me realise exactly how much good my degree did me – it gave me a valuable head start in my career!
