International student, from India
“I did the course because I wanted to experience journalism in a country and culture very different from my own. Doing the course gave me time to get used to the new culture and ways.
“I enjoyed how structured and practical the course was. When we went out on work experience we could see how what we’d learnt in class could be applied in the real world. And we kept on improving as the year went on.
“My advice to international students thinking of doing the course is: Be confident in your English language skills. The course is very intensive, and it is a little overwhelming coming to a new country, so make sure you are keen to become a journalist.
“And get out and meet people: Mingling with Kiwis will help you find stories and understand the culture.”
