Massey’s economics staff are internationally-renowned for their research and teaching and learning methods. You will be working with internationally-recognised economics researchers and specialists, for example:
Professor Engelbrecht’s current research interests include (i) economic growth theories and growth empirics, (ii) innovation studies, including normative aspects of innovation, and (iii) comprehensive wealth measures and macro-level sustainability indicators. Some of these interests are inter-disciplinary, for example including aspects of subjective well-being (‘happiness’) research.
Professor Engelbrecht obtained economics degrees from the University of Heidelberg, Germany, the University of East Anglia, U.K., and the University of Queensland, Australia and has been at Massey since 1987. He has been a Visiting Fellow at the Institute of Advanced Study, Research School of Social Sciences, Australian National University (1994) and a Visiting Scholar, School of Information, the University of California at Berkeley (2010). Professor Engelbrecht is widely-published internationally including internationally peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Evolutionary Economics, Applied Economics, and Ecological Economics. He is on the editorial board of two international journals and a referee for many others, as well as having been a consultant to a number of government and other organisations.
