Abraham Agyemang

With an MSc in Finance from Coventry University, UK, I am studying as a PhD student in Finance at Massey University. My PhD study examines the impact of algorithmic trading on market liquidity and efficiency with keen interest in the New Zealand and Australian stock markets.


Saba Azeem

My PhD research work focuses on online banking impact on switching behaviours at different stages of customers’ demographic characteristic of household lifecycle stages. The study aims to identify and evaluate the impacts of online banking (Internet and mobile banking technologies) on switching behaviours at different lifecycle stages of customers to find how banking institutions should respond to these advancements for better customer retention. My research will examine the significance of different lifecycle stages of customers in their banking relationships; identify the switching behaviours of customers at each stage of their household lifecycle; assess the impacts of online banking on customers’ inclination to switch between banks across lifecycle stages; and will lead to recommendations, responses and regulatory and institutional changes to retail banking environment against customers’ switching behaviours. I wish to bring about a positive change in New Zealand’s banking sector with this research contribution, by helping the banking institutions to better respond to increasing switching pressures from customers.

My PhD research work focuses on the Economics of Tourism. The study is carried out through three main chapters: microeconomic models of tourism, tourism satellite accounts (input-output matrices), and economic growth models based upon tourism. The aims of the research will lie on new theoretical contribution on the tourism economics, as well as new empirical outcomes to help policy makers in their decisions.

Lin Geng

After obtaining Bachelor Degree of Management (specialized in Business Administration) and Master Degree of Management (specialized in Financial Management) in Dongbei University of Finance and Economics in Dalian, China, I worked for a Chinese company which operated grain import and distribution and employed financial derivatives to hedge risk of commodity price. This work experience fostered me a great interest in Risk Management and Asset Pricing and motivated me to join the PhD program in Finance at Massey University in 2016.

I am a carrier academic from Pakistan, a researcher and an expert consultant in the field of Education with an excellent track record. My area of interest is corporate governance, currently my research is focused on ‘Emerging Aspects of Shareholder Activism’. Before joining Massey University I was an Assistant Professor at FAST-NU, Islamabad Campus. I have a Masters in Finance and MBA with silver and gold medal respectively. Recently I have completed a policy research Project for Pakistan Strategy Support Program to ascertain the effectiveness of the code of corporate governance in Pakistan. I have been part of various consulting assignments worth more than 63 Million Rupees, with various national and international organizations.

My areas of interest are International Finance and Corporate Finance. My Ph.D. research focusses on "The Financial Integration Between Food Commodity Markets and Stock Market".

I wish to contribute to the field of finance by identifying and understanding the behaviours individual investors of New Zealand’s and the psychological motivations behind their investment objectives and strategies with a likely effect on portfolio returns.This research will benefit investors of New Zealand to avoid financial pitfalls and help in strategy development. On the other hand, it will also advantage New Zealand’s wealth management companies and investment management firms by enabling them to incorporate psychological aspects in advising their clients.

Nikhil Srivastava

I am a Chartered Financial Analyst (ICFAI University) and also completed MBA with distinction from University of West of England, UK. Before joining PhD from Massey University, I was associated with PricewaterhouseCoopers Pvt ltd. in India as a consultant in Risk Advisory Services. I have also worked with the largest stock exchange of India, National Stock Exchange for almost four years in Investigation department, where I was involved in identifying the market manipulations (financial crimes) in stock market.

My research focuses on the “issues around the pricing and structure of bank saving products”. My research interest hovers around the topic of asset liabilities management, fixed income security market, banking system, asset pricing, developmental finance and portfolio management.

I have studied in my home country, Thailand, and in Europe, namely, Scotland. As a result, I have a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) in Finance (First Class Honours) from The University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, and also a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) in Finance from Kasetsart University as well as a Master of Research in Business and Management from the University of Stirling. Furthermore, I worked as an auditor in the Treasury and Financial Product Auditing Department of the Siam Commercial Bank and as a lecturer at Kasetsart University in the Department of Finance. I am particularly interested in Corporate Governance. The focus of my PhD research is on 'Complicated Signals and the Cross-Section of Stock Returns'.

My research topic is “Impact of Global Financial Crisis 2008 on Banks”. It is a comparison of bank efficiency among USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.


Sania Wadud

Sania has graduated with a Master of Science in Financial Forecasting and Investment from the University of Glasgow, Scotland after completing dissertation on Economic Analysis of Microfinance and Macroeconomic Stability as Indicators of Sustainable Development. She has recently started her Ph.D. in Finance under the School of Economics and Finance at Massey University, Palmerton North. Her Ph.D. research focuses on “the Efficiencies of Commodity Futures Markets”. Her research interest includes Forecasting and Modelling, Financial Contagion and Financial Derivatives. She is also a Lecturer in BRAC Business School at BRAC University and currently on her study leave.

My PhD research focuses on the different challenges of rural women’s off-farm employment, local off farm employment and farming with and without the implementation of land transfer (especially, Land Bank in Yangling). It explores constraints that impede women in seeking farming and off-farm employment; rural women’s initiative and innovative behaviour will also be studied. This study is based on conditions in Shaanxi, China.

This area interests me as hedge funds tend to outperform traditional assets. In addition, hedge funds in the Asia Pacific region has not been well researched.
