The School of Fine Arts is based at the Wellington campus and offers innovative programmes in contemporary art practice and research at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
The Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) places particular emphasis on the potential for transdisciplinary practice via the development of practical and conceptual skills across a range of media and disciplines.
Contemporary Art Studio and Critical Studies form the core papers of the programme and are the primary focus of the undergraduate degree.
Electives support the core papers and can be selected to align with the interests of individual students. Electives offered by the School may focus on a specific media or technical approach to art making, such as Introduction to Painting and Sculpture, Drawing and Drawing the Body. Alternatively, as in the Fine Arts Elective, they develop out of the research interests of our academic staff. The projects in these papers will change from semester to semester and year to year, addressing issues titled as diversely as: "Performance", "Sculpture and Site", "Self-published Fanzines", and the unusual "Conceptualisms, Conspiracies and Counter-histories".
What’s great about being a student in the College of Creative Arts is the option to take electives from CoCA programmes in Design and Visual and Material Culture as well as those offered by other Massey Colleges*.
