WATT is a team of researchers at Massey University College of Creative Arts visualizing new immersive and responsive environments and objects through the application of advanced lighting technologies.
Their cross-disciplinary research projects explore the intersections of digital installation, performance, architectural space, public sculpture, moving image and media art with an aim to provoke an interactive and emotional experience prompted by social interaction. These projects expand the limits of physical and virtual space through hybrid situations augmented by image and sound projection, tagging and sensor devices, and spatial translation of natural phenomena through computational processes.
Drawing from the interface of affect and effect, these aesthetic creative research practices develop design solutions germane to contemporary issues in healthcare, gaming, retail, museum, exhibition and educational environments.
WATT seeks to be a leader in this internationally emerging field which exerts an influence on the role of design to shape social contexts through technological innovation and creativity.
