Critical Studies

Critical Studies is the practice of thinking critically about the world we live in. The papers offer opportunities to explore and analyse art, design, music, literature, film, digital media and advertising through philosophical, sociological and semiotic frameworks. This includes unpacking ideology in both its dominant and alternative forms in the context of visual and material culture.

Meaning is not produced naturally, critical studies encourages a reflexive enquiry which problematises both the object of study and the method used to study it. In order to be effective, critical studies employs an interdisciplinary approach that seeks to synthesise its findings to develop awareness and innovation in practice.
