Postgraduate study in Humanities and Social Sciences
Introduction
The College of Humanities and Social Sciences offers a diverse and exciting range of postgraduate programmes. Our postgraduate programmes are designed to challenge students to develop their intellectual potential, and to promote the acquisition of the knowledge and skills that are critical to professional success. They are also designed for flexibility and accessibility: we offer both campus-based and extramural study options, and we welcome both full-time and part-time students.
Our programmes focus on people - their beliefs and behaviours, their health and well-being, their languages and literature, their social and physical environments. If you're interested in people, and want to make a difference to the world in which we live, then we can offer you exciting choices for postgraduate study.
Your choices include:
- Traditional research-based degrees:
We offer the opportunity for advanced study and research that builds on your prior undergraduate degree, primarily through the BA(Hons), MA, and PhD degrees. A wide range of subject choices is available in these degrees, from anthropology to women's studies. - Professional/applied degrees and diplomas:
We also offer professional and applied certificates, degrees and diplomas in areas such as development studies, emergency management, Māori visual arts, museum studies, nursing, public policy, public health, psychology, rehabilitation, resource and environmental planning, second language teaching, social sector research and social work. - Transitional qualifications:
We offer the chance to shift your focus and prepare yourself for further study in a new area by completing a transitional qualification such as the Graduate Diploma in Arts. Open to those who have completed any undergraduate degree, the GDipArts provides the equivalent of a Bachelor of Arts major in a new discipline.
