In the Division of Human Nutrition and Dietetics, research staff and students carry out discovery and applied research. We undertake research into the nutritional status of population groups, factors that influence nutrient intake, and the effects of changing diet and the mechanism involved, as well as rigorously evaluating clinical practice and nutritional interventions. Our scientists develop and optimise new models and techniques to study food choice, food intake and the digestion, absorption and utilisation of nutrients.
For many of our studies we recruit participants from our local communities – you can find out more about these in the Studies section.
We are also a leading research collaborator with New Zealand’s biggest food companies, partnering with groups such as Fonterra, Zespri and Beef and Lamb New Zealand, to design and assess bioactive food components, nutriceuticals and novel food formats.
Many of our staff are associated with the Vitamin D Research Centre.
