Research projects

Below is a selection from the range of research programmes managed by Riddet Innovation.  These projects have their own internal structure and control mechanisms, but we provide support and coordination to ensure successful project outcomes and relationship management.

  • Food Industry Enabling Technologies (FIET). A 6-year multi-partner research programme that aims to develop new or adapt existing processing technologies to enable the NZ food industry to grow export margins.
  • Fonterra Dairy post-farmgate Primary Growth Partnership (PGP).  This is a major programme in dairy research led by Fonterra and co-funded by the Ministry of Primary Industries.  The post-farm component has a number of ambitious research goals including creating and managing food structures to develop ingredients with improved sensory attributes, and new food formats; transforming food manufacture and supply chains for consumer, cost and environmental benefits; and advancing protein nutrition science to deliver foods with robust health and wellness benefits.
  • Strategic Research and Scientific Advisory (SRSA) for Zespri’s Nutrition and Health Platform.  The SRSA provides Zespri with advice on the science required to better understand the nutritional and health benefits of kiwifruit, which can then be used to promote the sale of Zespri kiwifruit worldwide.
  • Alpha-Massey Natural Nutraceutical Research Centre.  This is funded by Alpha Group Holdings, a bio-tech manufacturing company that exports premium nutraceutical products primarily to Asia, and is in collaboration with Tongji University in China.  The Centre will identify and scientifically validate the potential health benefits of extracts of plants and fungi common to New Zealand.
  • High Value Nutrition (HVN):  The Science of Food.  The HVN Science Challenge is charged with driving export growth from the development of high-value foods with scientifically validated health claims.  The Science of Food research programme is an enabler for the Health Platform Programmes and potentially several of the contestable fund programmes within HVN.
  • FoodPilot
