With a passion for people and science, nursing was the ideal career for Jasmine Kidd.
She wanted a career that would be challenging but rewarding.
Jasmine says Massey’s nursing programme has a really good mix of practical placements and theoretical learning.
“It’s challenging and time management skills are essential. You learn so much about the world and it gives you a new perspective about people.”
She had placements in Palmerston North and Whanganui in many different settings including rest homes, alcohol and drug rehabilitation, oncology and orthopaedic wards, and an operating theatre.
“On your placements you are partnered with a Registered Nurse and as you progress through the course you gain more responsibility. Placements are always amazing to work out what areas of nursing you are passionate about. The hands-on learning and dealing with real patients in real life situations really helps to put theory into practice.”
If you enjoy interacting with and caring for people, have a sense of humour, enjoy team work and want a diverse job with many learning experiences, then Jasmine believes a career in nursing would be perfect.
