Massey University's exchange programme with Zhejiang University in China allows food science and technology students to study in New Zealand for one semester.
You will undertake the exchange during Semester 2, which begins in July, and will study part of the Bachelor of Food Technology with Honours programme, under the Food Product Technology major.
Massey University is a world leader in food technology and has been producing graduates for the New Zealand and international food industries for the last 50 years. It is the only degree in Australasia that combines food science, food engineering and food business.
We are specialists in all aspects of food, though we have a focus on dairy and meat products and have a dedicated unit for post-harvest technology.
The Food Product Technology major is accredited by the US-based Institute of Food Technologists. It is one of only a handful of programmes outside the Americas to have achieved this recognition.
The exchange takes place at Massey’s Palmerston North Campus, where you will find our world-class food technology facilities, including our Food Pilot Plant. The Food Pilot Plant allows us to teach students traditional and new processing techniques for food manufacture and is designed and run to meet industry regulations.

Palmerston North is a small, safe university city with a population of about 80,000 people.
Along with Massey University, the city hosts several major food research institutes:
Palmerston North is set in the farming and food production district of Manawatu, in the lower part of the North Island. Over winter and spring the temperature ranges from approximately 12 degrees Celsius to 18 degrees Celsius during the day. It is two hours’ drive from capital city Wellington, two hours west of the fruit, vegetable and wine-making district of Hawke’s Bay, and two hours south of the ski-fields of Tongariro National Park.
