R is a free and powerful software environment for statistical computing, data analysis, and graphics. The R environment is highly flexible and it contains a wealth of functions to carry out standard and non-standard statistical and graphical analyses.
The course is over two days. Each day will consist of an alternating series of lectures and computer practicals.
Each participant will have access to a person computer running Windows and pre-loaded with R, but may bring their own laptop computer if desired.
Workshop size will be restricted to 21, with places allocated on a first come first served basis.
Day 1 R software system, syntax, handling data and linear regression in R.
Day 2 Graphics in R, statistical modelling, R administration and programming.
Who should attend?
The workshop is designed for data analysts (both statisticians and non-statisticians) with a solid grounding in statistics but with little or no experience with R.
The course will be presented by Professor Martin Hazelton and Dr Jonathan Marshall. Both have extensive experience using R for research and teaching, and have delivered a variety of workshops and short courses on this software.
The cost is $800, with reduced rates of $400 to Massey staff and students. The fee covers full catering (morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea) and supporting course materials.
Online registration will open early in January at http://tinyurl.com/IFSrworkshop
