    Fernanda graduated from the National Autonomous University in Mexico City  and completed a Doctorate in Veterinary Science from the Ontario Veterinary College. Her research focused on the molecular characterization of respiratory infection with Mycoplasma bovis in feedlot cattle. Prior to joining Massey University, Fernanda worked as assistant professor in veterinary pathology at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. She attained certification in anatomic pathology by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists in 2013. Her research interests are infectious diseases and diagnostic pathology.

    As a Senior Research Officer within the Wildbase Oiled Wildlife Response team, Louise's role is to undertake and help facilitate research associated with oil spill response.  Louise's research focuses on marine wildlife and ecosystems including ecosystem integrity, population biology, behaviour and foraging ecology. Species she has worked with include NZ sea lion, NZ fur seal, dolphins, dugongs,  beaked and baleen whales and sea birds mainly penguins and shore birds. Louise is the lead scientist for NZ for the International Whlaing Commission. Her research will be expanding to incorperate impacts from oil spills and improving oil spill response techniques for wildlife.

    Professor Cockrem's research considers responses of animals, especially birds, to changes in their environment.  His comparative endocrinology research began with his PhD studies at the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom.  He has considered topics ranging from fundamental studies of physiological mechanisms to the development of conservation methods for New Zealand birds.  Study species have included Adelie and emperor penguins in Antarctica, kiwi, kakapo, tuatara and a wide range of other animals.  His research is now focussed on the kororā (little penguin), with iwi involvement and recognition of mātauranga Māori traditional knowledge of the kororā central to this work.

    My background is in anatomy and biomechanics. My undergraduate degree (Guelph, Canada) was in Human Kinetics, with a focus on anatomy, biomechanics and exercise physiology. I went on from there to do a Masters in biomechanics (Windsor, Canada) and then a PhD in anatomy (Queen's University, Kingston, Canada) with my research focused in rehabilitation of gait in stroke patients. Following a post-doc in Toronto, 5 years in Saskatoon teaching anatomy to medical students, and 16 years in Bristol, England teaching veterinary anatomy, I've moved to New Zealand where I continue my research in animal locomotion and biomechanics.

    My main research interest is photosensitisation diseases of cattle, sheep, horses, and dogs, This includes facial eczema as well as brassica-associated liver disease (BALD) in cattle, rape scald in sheep, spring eczema in calves and adult cattle, and other photosensitivity diseases of unknown cause. I lead a team investigating the cause of the large swede-associated liver disease outbreak in dairy cows in 2014.

    A third generation New Zealand Cantabrian, I graduated BSc (Hons) in animal physiology from Canterbury University in 1975 and undertook my PhD in Zoology at the same institution. After two years at the University of British Colombia, Vancouver as a postdoctoral fellow I took a position in veterinary anatomy at the veterinary school at Massey University where I stayed for 24 years. I accepted the Chair of Veterinary Anatomy in the School of Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences at Charles Sturt University in 2005. After three and a half years they let me out with time off for good behaviour.

    Rao was born and brought up in an agricultural family in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. After obtaining BVSc and MVSc (Genetics and Animal Breeding) degrees from Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University, he worked for over three years in the same university as Lecturer in Genetics and Animal Breeding. Rao came to New Zealand in 2002 to do PhD in Animal Science (Molecular Genetics) in IVABS, Massey University. After completion of PhD in early 2007, he worked as Research Officer in Johne's sub-unit vaccine project in IVABS until appointed to the current position at the beginning of 2011.

    Nigel is Professor of Food Safety and Veterinary Public Health at Massey University, New Zealand.  He is Director of the New Zealand Food Safety Science and Research Centre, Director of the Infectious Disease Research Centre and Executive Director of the Molecular Epidemiology and Public Health laboratory, specializing in molecular epidemiology and the control of infectious diseases.  Nigel has worked on the epidemiology and control of infectious diseases of national and global importance. His most notable contribution was providing crucial scientific evidence on the source of food-borne infections which underpinned the development of improved strategies for control of these pathogens.

    I am an avian and wildlife veterinarian with research interests in wildlife health issues, particularly as they affect the conservation of New Zealand native species. In particular my research has focussed on wildlife disease ecology and ecotoxicology at population levels and the physiological impacts of conservation management on individual animal health. I am a Director of the Wildbase Research Centre at Massey University.

    I completed my veterinary degree at the University of Pennsylvania in 2010 concentrating in food animal production medicine and veterinary public health.  After a brief spell in private practice, I completed a PhD at the University of Edinburgh focusing on the use of national livestock movement databases to understand patterns of disease transmission and to develop novel approaches to disease control in the British cattle industry.  Prior to joining Massey University, I worked as a research consultant on a veterinary syndromic surveillance project at Texas A&M University and as a clinical staff veterinarian at two large animal shelters in Philadelphia.

I grew up on a sheep and beef farm near Gisborne and have maintained a strong interest in beef production, particularly breeding cows. Current research interests include beef cow efficiency, making the best use of dairy beef opportunities, and Theileria orientalis (ikeda) impacts in beef herds.

After a spell in small animal practice, he moved to The Animal Health Trust in Newmarket, UK as Resident in Veterinary Anaesthesia. He obtained his RCVS Diploma in Veterinary Anaesthesia in 1992 and after a time as a locum lecturer in Pretoria, South Africa returned to the UK and gained a PhD from Cambridge University. From 1996 – 2001 Craig was a Lecturer in Veterinary Anaesthesia at Bristol University, UK. In April 2001 he moved to Massey and is now Professor of Veterinary Neurophysiology.

    I have a passion for multi-disciplinary research and teaching to strengthen the One Health approach to managing zoonotic diseases, and currently lead the academic program for an EU-funded One Health project in South Asia. I have worked extensively on biosecurity and strengthening epidemiology services in Asia and the Pacific. Having a particular interest in wildlife disease, I led multi-disciplinary teams to prepare national wildlife disease and vector-borne disease surveillance strategies for New Zealand and developed methodology to prioritise wildlife pathogens for risk-based surveillance.     I am a veterinary pathologist who is boarded by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists. As such I have a good knowledge of a wide range of diseases of animal species. I have 15 years' experience in the diagnosis of animal diseases, both in New Zealand as well as in the United States of America. I am a recognised expert of cancer biology and pathology and recently authored a book chapter on this subject. My other research focus is investigating a role of infectious agents in the development of cancer in animals.

    I am an Assoc Professor at Massey University teaching and conducting research across disciplines into Veterinary science, Equine science, Agriculture production systems and Sport Science. I obtained my PhD from Massey University in Equine Biomechanics and then was a Huygens Post-Doctoral fellow at Utrecht University, the Netherlands.  After completion of the Post-Doctoral appointment I returned to take up a position at Massey University.

    My current research interests have a similar eclectic mix to my teaching.  However, the common theme has been the effect of environmental and training stimuli on tissue development and career length in both racing and sport horses.

    Rachael is a behaviour veterinarian involved in teaching animal behaviour, training and welfare and professional skills to veterinary, veterinary technology, animal science and equine science students. Rachael runs the Massey University Veterinary Teaching Hospital Behaviour Service. She performs animal behaviour consultations for primary and referral companion animal and horse cases. Her research interests include the animal behaviour, health and welfare, animal emotion, learning and temperament, human-animal bond, service dogs and animal health and welfare in emergencies and disasters. Rachael is also a founding member of the Massey University Veterinary Emergency Response Team (VERT).

    I have a research background in veterinary epidemiology, immunology, microbiology and molecular biology. I have been involved in livestock diseases research i.e. FMD, Leptospirosis, Johne’s disease, bovine mastitis and tuberculosis. My current research focuses on epidemiology, socio-economic impact and development of risk-based control strategies for FMD in Lao and Myanmar. I am a project manager for FMD control programme contracted by the OIE which is funded by New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade through the SEACFMD campaign. I am also providing international training to strengthen capability of veterinary services and capacity building for FMD control in South-East Asia.

    in 2009, and worked in rural private practice for 3 and a half years working
    with all domestic species. Following this, a return to Massey University and
    Palmerston North saw Lisa complete an Internship in Equine Clinical Studies in
    Massey Equine. Currently, Lisa is employed as a lecturer and veterinarian in the Farm
    Services Clinic of the Massey University Veterinary Teaching Hospital, involved
    in the education of veterinary and veterinary technician undergraduate
    students, as well as working with clients of the clinic.

    Since finishing my studies in Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry, I have branched out into the study of (re-) emerging zoonotic disease. I have a particular interest in the One Health framework, and the combination of classical Microbiology, Genetics and state-of-the-art Genomics to study the evolution and epidemiology of disease-causing microorganisms. I enjoy the multidisciplinary nature of this field, which creates a number of challenges but is ultimately extremely rewarding.

    As a postdoc at mEpilab, I am involved in a number of projects including the study of Campylobacter and Leptospira in domestic and wild animals.
