CErgOSH wins funding to explore internationalisation of graduate diploma

Associate Professor Ian Laird was recently awarded an International Distance Education Programme Development Grant from Massey University to explore the feasibility of internationalising the Graduate Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (GradDipOSH). The GradDipOSH is already the only tertiary qualification in New Zealand that is fully accredited with the UK Institute of OSH.

Dr Uri Widanarko, the most recent graduate from the Centre for Ergonomics, Occupational Safety and Health with a PhD in Ergonomics, will be the project officer. Dr Widanarko will review courses within the diploma, and suggest revisions to the content and delivery of the courses to enable them to be successfully offered and presented to the international OHS market. Dr Widanarko is especially well qualified to undertake this project, having examined international OSH programmes when she worked at the University of Indonesia.

The final report at the end of the year is expected to identify ways in which the GradDipOSH could attract more international students to study at Massey in the future. In addition, a proportion of the grant will be utilised to undertake a market research survey to explore the potential for Massey University OHS qualifications in the international OHS practitioner education and training market.
